United BioSource transfers safety functions to Oracle's cloud service

United BioSource, a provider of software services for clinical trials, is moving its in-house safety functions to Oracle’s Argus Cloud Service.

The move was made to help reduce operational complexities and refocus United BioSource’s resources on other parts of the business, the company said in an Aug. 1 press release. United BioSource provides evidence development and participant support services like digital recruitment strategies and real-world data analysis software.

Financial details of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Nathan Thompson, United BioSource’s chief information officer, said in the release that the move will “enable us to better manage all safety aspects of even our most complex trials.”

The company cited Ernst & Young research that said pharmaceutical companies deal with about 700,000 adverse event cases each year, and constant changes in caseloads and regulations require more efficient case management and compliance.

United BioSource has been busy this summer, inking a deal in July with clinical-grade blood collection specialist Tasso to streamline sample collection and analysis to make participating in trials easier for patients.
