Becton Dickinson has launched the new, smaller version of its Phoenix antimicrobial resistance diagnostic.
The Phoenix M50 ID/AST boasts a smaller footprint than its predecessor, the Phoenix 100, BD said in a release. It holds 136 wells and can integrate with other BD analyzers like the BACTEC and Bruker systems.
The cloud connectivity using BD’s EpiCenter middleware is a feature the company uses to highlight many of its diagnostic devices. Just last week, BD rolled out its Veritor Plus diagnostic for the flu and other diseases, and the device similarly allows doctors and other professionals to wirelessly transfer data to a patient’s medical record or to other laboratories.
"The small footprint of the BD Phoenix M50 system combined with its demonstrated speed, accuracy and efficiency makes the system an attractive solution for microbiology laboratories around the world," diagnostics systems president Dave Hickey said. "This launch reinforces the engagement of BD to become more relevant in ID/AST and intensifies its support to the fight against antimicrobial resistance."
Multidrug-resistant organisms pose a great risk, and the quick identification of the bugs is an important step to keeping up with treatment.
